Keep My Commandments

Faith makes all things possible… love makes all things easy. Dwight L Moody

Keep My Commandments

Then Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.”

Exodus 19:3-6

When the children of Israel arrived at Mt Sinai, the Lord called Moses up the mountain because He wanted to establish a covenant with His people. He reminded Israel of how He had delivered them from the yoke of slavery in Egypt, setting them free from bondage.

Now, He wanted to make the nation of Israel His own special people; if they obeyed His commands, they would be set apart from all other nations because by entering into a covenant relationship with God, they would be made holy.

Today, when we enter into the New Covenant that was initiated by Jesus at the Last Supper, we enter into a special union with Him. He has delivered us from the law of sin and death and wants us to be set apart for Him. In 1 Peter 2:9-10, Peter says, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.”

As we experience His grace and mercy, let us be faithful to keep our covenant with the One who loved us so much that He gave His life for us. As we receive His Holy Spirit, may our lives be transformed and renewed to be a living testimony of His great love.
