Help Me Overcome My Unbelief

Our heavenly Father understands our disappointment, suffering, pain, fear, and doubt. He is always there to encourage our hearts and help us understand that He’s sufficient for all of our needs. When I accepted this as an absolute truth in my life, I found that my worrying stopped. Charles Stanley

Help Me Overcome My Unbelief

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Matthew 17:20

Many of us believe that we have faith but often, when we come face to face with a challenging or difficult situation, unbelief creeps in and opens the door to fear and we are made ineffective by the enemy.

In Mark chapter 9, we read of a demon possessed boy whom the disciples could not heal. The boy’s father brings the child to Jesus, who asked him how long this had been happening to his son.

He replied, “Since he was a little boy. The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.”“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:21-24

Let us look at the words that the father spoke. He said, “I do believe, but help me to overcome my unbelief!” The father had seen his son suffer from a small age and would have sought healing from many people, including Jesus’ disciples. He came to Jesus, believing that He could heal his son, but also asking the Lord to deal with any unbelief that had grown from the years of disappointment at seeing his son remain in bondage.
Many of us may find ourselves in a similar situation, where we pray for healing but fail to see it come to pass because there is unbelief in hearts. We need to come to Jesus and like the father, ask the Lord to help us overcome our unbelief.
We also need to remember that we should not entertain unbelief, even though we do not immediately see the result. Faith does not rely on what is seen but if we believe that we have received and continue to thank Him without a doubt, then we can be confident of  receiving what we have asked for. We have seen this happen in our lives and can testify to it.

Dear Lord,
Thank You for this day. I seek You with all my heart and pray that You will give me the strength to overcome my unbelief. Amen.

God bless you,
