God Is Our Strength

The Christian life is not a constant high. I have my moments of deep discouragement. I have to go to God in prayer with tears in my eyes, and say, ‘O God, forgive me,’ or ‘Help me.’ Billy Graham

God Is Our Strength

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

Psalm 46:1-3

Elijah was a great prophet and one of the greatest miracles that God performed through him was to bring fire down from heaven to burn up the sacrifice before the prophets of Baal, in order to prove that the God of Israel was the true God. Furthermore, he killed all the prophets of Baal which would have taken a lot of courage and strength, an act of obedience he would not have accomplished unless the Lord was with him.

He saw and experienced the power of God but when Jezebel, the wife of Ahab, threatened to kill him, he lost his focus and became disappointed that the victory at Mount Carmel had no effect in changing the evil ways of Jezebel. He was so disheartened and discouraged that he ran away, praying that God would take his life rather than staying to be killed by Jezebel.

“But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, “It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life for I am no better than my fathers. Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him, and said to him, “Arise and eat.” 1 Kings 19:4-5

We may go through similar situations, experiencing great spiritual victories, only to be let down by sudden set backs and attacks from the enemy. The good news is that the Lord will send His angel to strengthen us. He will encourage us and restore our faith so that we may continue along the path that He has chosen for us.

Elijah received supernatural food from the angel, food that gave him strength for forty days and forty nights until he reached Mount Sinai. Likewise, we need to seek His supernatural healing and strength which will sustain us as we journey towards the Lord, seeking His revelation, not in mighty signs and wonders but in the still, small voice of His Holy Spirit.
Today if we are going through a difficult situation, we can be assured that He is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in our times of trouble.

Dear Lord,
I thank You that I can come to You in the name of Jesus and say that I am weak and tired and I need Your strength. Please strengthen me so that I can do Your will to bring You glory. Amen.

God bless you,
Theo and Manju
