Furious Storms

In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Ephesians 6:16

Furious Storms

Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.  The disciples went and woke him, saying, Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. Matthew 8:25-26

Storms in our daily life are inevitable and are often unexpected. These could take various forms and some could be through our own faults, failures and the wrong choices that we make.

When we look at the above scenario, the boat was in charge of the disciples who were professional fisherman.  The lake too was very familiar to them and they probably would have experienced and battled many a storms before.  However, this particular one brought fear into their hearts.

These were the men who were with Jesus, saw and experienced all the miracles that Jesus performed. Yet, when the storm came into their boat their faith failed.

We too can relate to the disciple as we fail to place our trust in our Saviour when furious storms fiercely attack our life boats. In His human nature, even though He slept as a man on that stormy night, He is our God , who will neither slumbers nor sleep.  With this assurance, like the disciples who in their fear, came to their Master, let us take shelter under His wings in every stormy situations of our lives and know that when ‘He is near there is nothing to fear.’
